Where You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple is an adventurous book, taking the reader on a topsy-turvy journey about Bernadette Fox. The main character Bernadette Fox is a complicated character to say the least. She was a promising architect well on her way to world recognition. However, something horrible happens, a prize building she was working on for three years was bought and then demolished by the new owner, causing Bernadette to become withdrawn from the architectural world. While all this was happening her husband built a great software program that was eventually bought by Microsoft, therefore they moved to Seattle. Bernadette starts a new life in Seattle becoming mom to Bee and being a stay-at-home mom and everything that is entailed with that. Semple, does a great job of painting the picture of the entire family and the people they affect in their lives from their neighbor, assistant, and others who come in contact with this family. Bernadette is the most interesting character, I have read this year; she has really bad anxiety, she is big dreamer, and infectious. Once you learn about Bernadette you just want to learn more and why she is the way she is. As the title suggest, where’d did Bernadette go? Well, Bernadette went…I can’t tell you that, but I will say many events occurred for her disappearance. The book was very interesting and a fun read something different from the usual.
Happy Reading!
