How To Use a Reading Tracker To Maximize Your Reading

In today’s fast-paced world, it can be challenging to keep track of the books you’ve read, the ones you want to read, and how much time you spend reading. Luckily, creating a reading tracker spreadsheet can be a game-changer for avid book lovers. It not only helps organize your reading goals but also provides insights into your reading habits.

Why Use a Reading Tracker Spreadsheet?

Organization and Accountability

A reading tracker spreadsheet provides a centralized location to catalog all the books you’ve read, plan to read, or even those you’ve abandoned. This level of organization helps you stay accountable to your reading goals and prevents books from slipping through the cracks.

Clear Progress Visualization

Visual learners, rejoice! A spreadsheet offers a visual representation of your reading journey. By tracking start and finish dates, page numbers, and genres, you can quickly see how many books you’ve read in a certain period, your reading pace, and the variety of genres you’re exploring.

Personalized Reading Goals

Set ambitious yet achievable reading goals, such as the number of books you want to read in a year or exploring new genres. A reading tracker spreadsheet helps you track your progress towards these goals and adjust them as needed.

Informed Choices

Keeping track of the books you’ve read and your thoughts on them can influence your future reading choices. Your spreadsheet can become a reference point for recommendations and enable you to make more informed selections based on your preferences.

Come on, let's go on a tour.

Your reading tracker is a tool to enhance your reading experience, not a rigid structure. Adapt it to suit your evolving needs and preferences.

1. Reading Log Tab
  • I’ll start with the Reading Log tab, where you enter your reading history. Title, Author, Genre, Pages, Format, Star Rating and the dates started and concluded are all rather simple to understand. There are 100 rows and even more can be added.

2. Reading Library
  • On the Reading Library Tab you link to the book covers of books you have read or own. In the dropdown give each a star rating. There are spacesr for 50 book covers.

4. Favorite Quotes
  • Use the Favorite Quotes tab to write or copy/paste your favorite passages from the books you are reading. There are 50 rows. You can always add more.
5. Wishlist
  • On the Wishlist Tab, list out the books you want to read/purchase. You can also use it as a TBR list.
6. Statistics
  • The magic happens on the Statistics tab, so let’s have a look at that now. The data you entered from the first tab is transformed into graphs, statistics, and charts on the second screen so you can observe how your reading has affected the data.
