After her life was turned upside down by solving the murder of her best friend, Sister Amity Gay, all Glory Brousard wanted was a little peace and quiet. That included getting back to her Sunday morning routine as a bookie in a coffee shop, and planning the annual Mardi Gras gala for her church. But there’s no rest for Glory once the woman who broke up her marriage walks in to CC’s Coffee House and asks for help finding her missing husband. It doesn’t take long before Glory finds him . . . with a knife impaled in his chest.
Glory Daze by Danielle Arceneaux is another great read in this mystery series, and I was hooked from the start. Glory is such a relatable character—every time I read about her, I can’t help but think of my mom. What’s interesting is how Glory always ends up solving murders involving people close to her. It’s a bit odd, but it really adds to the suspense and keeps the story moving.
In this second book, Glory has to face some serious trauma—her ex-husband’s murder and the woman he left her for. It really pushes the characters to confront the parts of themselves they’ve been avoiding. I loved how everyone starts realizing that there’s more to the people around them than they thought. One of the most touching moments for me was when Glory’s daughter starts seeing her mom in a new light, realizing she wasn’t as narrow-minded as she thought.
The book moves quickly, and even though I finished it fast, I didn’t want it to end. The characters feel like old friends, and it’s easy to get lost in their world. Overall, Glory Daze is a fun mystery with great characters, and I’m already looking forward to the next one!
