Black Love Romance Novels

I’m doing my first Top 10 Tuesday post. I’m trying to get into taking part in the weekly challenge as I love how it brings the book blogging community together!

This week is a Valentine’s Day freebie, so we can choose whatever topic we want that relates to Valentine’s Day in any way, so I decided to share ten books about Black Love.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list prompt originally hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Romance is not my favorite genre to read but recently I have been reading a lot more and enjoying it. There has been more and more representation happening in the romance genre with more black authors telling black love stories. With the rise in self-publishing the barriers of traditional publishing is almost non-existent. Thankfully, traditional publishing is increasing their roster of black writers to tell these stories. Reading Black romance novels have brought joy to me during these difficult times. To quote, Carole V. Bell, “The black experience in America isn’t all about struggle. Black romance novels remind us it’s also about joy.”

Below is a list of 10 books to start your journey into Black romance. All summaries are from Amazon.

  1. Let Me Love You by Alexandria House
    • Trying to put past hurts behind you is hard when your ex is a fool, but buoyed by child support and alimony, Jo Walker is moving forward with her life, pursuing a career, raising her little girl, and trying to live in peace. She believes she has all the bases covered in her world. But what about her heart?
  2. Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory
    • Dating is the last thing on Olivia Monroe’s mind when she moves to LA to start her own law firm. But when she meets a gorgeous man at a hotel bar and they spend the entire night flirting, she discovers too late that he is none other than hotshot junior senator Max Powell. Olivia has zero interest in dating a politician, but when a cake arrives at her office with the cutest message, she can’t resist—it is chocolate cake, after all.
  3. An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole
    • As the Civil War rages between the states, a courageous pair of spies plunge fearlessly into a maelstrom of ignorance, deceit, and danger, combining their unique skills to alter the course of history and break the chains of the past.
  4. Real Men Knit Kwana Jackson
    • When their foster-turned-adoptive mother suddenly dies, four brothers struggle to keep open the doors of her beloved Harlem knitting shop, while dealing with life and love in Harlem.
  5. The Left of Love by Love Belvin
    • A social experiment has never been so revealing and frightening for either one of these unassuming individuals. How could two people from the starkest contrast of rearing build an impenetrable bond in just three months? How long will it take for them to dig through their differences to understand those forces that connect them? At what cost will they find harmony to coexist?

  6. Pink Slip by Katrina Jackson
    • Pink Slip is the first in an erotic/suspense/spy/comedy series that wonders what James Bond’s receptionist’s life might have been like. If James Bond had a wife and they both wanted to shag the receptionist. But the dirty American version of that. And all of the possible entanglements in between.
  7. No Holds Barred by Stephanie Nicole Norris
    • Love was no longer on the menu for Camilla Augustina. After her fiancé calls off the wedding not once but twice, Camilla’s had enough. In a brazen move, she takes a new position in the windy city of Chicago; leaving her parents, friends, and ex in a bittersweet goodbye. Adapting to her new surroundings isn’t easy but as Camilla settles in a chance encounter with an infamous playboy throws her off balance and rattles her world.
  8. Beast by Pepper Pace
    • This modern re-telling of the Beauty and the Beast Fairytale is the story of Lt. Christopher Jameson AKA Beast, a Marine born with a severe facial deformity.
  9. The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon
    • For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she’s always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy, honey-eyed Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? When it comes to love, there’s no such thing as a coincidence. But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?
  10. Think I Might Love You by Christina C. Jones
    • Jaclyn Love is a magnet for trouble – it seems to follow her wherever she goes. Unfortunately for Kadan Davenport, she also seems to be a magnet for him – even after a disastrous first impression that leaves him – literally – black and blue. In a small city like Blakewood, it’s hard to avoid each other… especially when each additional encounter makes them wonder if they really want to.
