Summary From GoodReads

The Starseekers is another rip-roaring adventure for the Rhodes family, who have been using magic to aid their community and solve mysteries since before the Civil War. The times may have changed, but a Rhodes once again finds themselves thrust into a world of murders, theft, sabotage, and curses, and this time the stakes extend to the stars themselves.

My Thoughts

I did enjoy Starseekers, especially seeing how Nicole Glover continues to expand the Murder and Magic universe. Returning to the Rhodes family, but through the lens of the next generation, was one of the strongest parts of the book. If you want to keep track of how everyone connects, Nicole Glover has a Rhodes family tree available on her website, which is really helpful for seeing how the generations fit together. Watching them step into mystery work while still carrying the weight and wisdom of those who came before them felt thoughtful and earned.

Learning more about Cynthia was a highlight for me. The connection to Hidden Figures–style history was genuinely cool and added depth to her character and the world overall. I appreciated how Glover continues to weave Black history, intellect, and legacy into her storytelling in ways that feel intentional and respectful.

That said, the book was too long for me. I understand that Glover is doing a lot of world-building, but the number of interludes slowed the pacing. While those sections provided useful context, they made the story feel longer than it needed to be, and at times pulled me out of the main narrative.

One thing I really loved was how connected the Rhodes family still is, even while living in different cities. That sense of closeness and shared purpose across distance added emotional warmth to the story. I was genuinely sad when the book confirmed the status of Henrietta and Ben. I think part of me had convinced myself they were immortal. Still, seeing how their legacies live on through their descendants was powerful and fitting.

Overall, Starseekers is a solid addition to the universe, with strong themes of legacy, history, and generational growth. Even with some pacing issues, I am glad I read it and I am curious to see where Glover takes this world next.
